Off to Southern Mexico


No matter how far we roam, Mexico always has its pull on us. Mexico has 32 states and we have collecticely only been to 10! (This photo from 2009, Guanajuato) 

We are super excited to visit two new iconic Mexican cities: Oaxaca and Puebla. But we aren't alone! Juan and Miguel are meeting up with us in Puebla, and our friends Juan Pablo and Rebecca (from Alameda) are welcoming us to their family's home in Cholula for Christmas.

After the holiday it's onto Mexico City with Juan and Miguel, a return to for the four of us!

Oaxaca Day 1-2

Oaxaca feels so welcoming and tranquilo!  Atole. Con chocolate. So fresh .  Yesterday when we arrived we dropped our bags and wandered towards the Zócalo - it is super impressive and reminds us of Mérida with restaurants surrounding the plaza and people watching, little performances and vendors. Very relaxing just hanging out there in the shade. Today our private guide Tomas took us on a good tour that was amazing. We started outside in his pueblo Teotitlcn del Valle for the market where a beautiful woman served us atole con chocolate. She was shelling the roasted cacao herself by hand. The church in this pueblo has an amazing Chapel of Maryrts with a wooden ceiling and relief sculptures of saints who were martyred highlighted with gold.  We visited a larger town and its market, Tlacolula where we (Mel) had chapulunes,. barbacoa (goat), tejate (drink) and other Oaxacan treats.
